Bidders tendering for the development of a controversial US$1.8bn, 22km light rail scheme in Tel Aviv, Israel, have again been given an extension for the return of bids for the 32-year build-operate-transfer (BOT) concession. Tenders for the 22km Red Line, which includes 10km of tunnel, are now due on 20 December.
Just two groups are believed to be still in the running, bids were initially invited from four groups in September 2003, but the deadline for the return of tenders has been extended at least three times because of the complex nature of the concession.
