Jail officials say the tunnel may have been dug with dinner plates and wood, although the tools have not yet been found. Inmates volunteered to work in the prison garden, where they dumped the sand they had extracted, officials told local press.
The Minister of State for Home Rajnikant Patel has ordered an enquiry into the incident. An investigation to find out how long the digging went on and who was involved is currently underway.
