Construction starts this month on a 310m twin tube road tunnel, near Nazareth, Israel. Roichman Bros won the contract with a bid of US$8.6M. Roichman is in joint venture with the Romanian tunnelling company, Tunele SA. The tunnel consultant is Rozen Engineering Ltd. The horseshoe-shaped tunnels will have an approximate diameter of 4.8m, and contain two lanes each. The geology is very soft marl, and marly chalk, and the tunnels are expected to cross highly jointed and karstic dolomite rocks throughout the alignment. Drill and blast excavation will be supported by rock bolts and shotcrete.
