Colchester-based global supplier of energy efficient air solutions, Flakt Woods UK has been awarded its largest single contract at EUR 7M (USD 9.6M). They are to supply a range from their super-powerful axial fans for eight shafts ventilating the 13.6km Marmaray rail tunnel beneath Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait.
The 2.8m diameter fans will ventilate eight shafts in the tunnel 60m below sea level, providing emergency ventilation in case of fire on the 1km-long freight trains. The Marmaray project will be the world’s deepest immersed tube tunnel comprising of eleven sections each 130 metres long and weighing 1800 tons.
