In the UK, an underground facility built in Wiltshire in the 1950s to house the government in the event of a nuclear attack is being put on the market as part of a PFI project for the overlying military base. Spread over 240 acres with 97km of roads, the complex even has its own pub modelled on the Red Lion in Whitehall. A spur line was built in tunnel to the main London to bristol railway line to facilitate evacuation of the royal family in the event of an attack. Uses being considered include data storage and a wine cellar.
