Imtech NV and GTI nv have won an order from the Betuweroute Project in the Netherlands for the “project management, engineering and installation of the complete technology for the management, security and communication in five tunnels for the Betuweroute.”

The Betuweroute is the 190km long twin track railfreight connection between Rotterdam and European transport corridors. This US$87M order is for the Botlek, Sophia, Pannerdensch canal, Zevenaar and river Giesen tunnels. With engineering due to commence this month, a major component of the order is the sprinkler and fire extinguishing technology that is also designed to cool the tunnels’ concrete walls to mitigate damage.
