The design and build collaboration contract for the Hammersborg and Vaterland tunnels on Ring 1 is worth NKr2.1bn (£156m) excluding VAT.

The 370m-long Vaterland Tunnel will be upgraded, while the 380m-long Hammersborg Tunnel will be rebuilt, extended, reinforced and lowered because of security requirements for government buildings in Oslo’s new Government Quarter.

Both tunnels were built in 1989 and extensive maintenance is needed, including the repair of concrete structures and the roadway. General infrastructure such as lighting, cables, pipes, wires, and signage will also be replaced in both tunnels.

Construction work will start soon, and completion is scheduled for summer 2027.
