In mid-August the Ngang Pass Tunnel in the central Quang Binh province of Vietnam was officially opened to traffic nearly one year ahead of schedule. The higher productivity was attributed to “effectively applying Austria’s construction technology and using modern technical equipment” in local reports.

The 495m long road tunnel was built by Song Da Construction Corporation at a cost of US$9.4M under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract. The Ngang Pass Tunnel and the associated Hai Van Pass Tunnel are designed as measures to shorten travel time and reduce accidents on a dangerous section of road.
