Four tunnelling contracts will be awarded next year as part of the Kunming water supply project planned in southwest China by the Kunming Zhangjiuhe River Water Diversion & Water Supply Project Construction Administration Bureau.

Bids for the scheme, which is likely to be funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, are likely to be invited next January.

The four deals comprise:

  • the 7.8km long Kangle tunnel and the 13.732km Shanggongshan tunnel which will be built by tunnel boring machine lined by precast concrete segments filled with gravel and grout. The tunnels will link with a headworks complex
  • the 8.23km Pingdi tunnel near Sanqinghe
  • the 3.6km Qingshuitang tunnel, the 11.16km Changkou tunnel and the 1.465km Huanghuipo tunnel
  • the 9.05km long Wulaoshan tunnel.
  • The Pingdi, Qingshuitang, Changkou, Huanghuipo and Wulaoshan tunnels will all be excavated by drill and blast techniques and lined with insitu concrete.

Minmetals International Tendering Corporation is currently inviting firms to prequalify for each of the four tunnel sections on behalf of Kunming construction’s bureau.
