China’s Ministry of Railways has reported the successful breakthrough of the 4.4km long Xinzhai tunnel on the 879km long Neijiang-Kunming railway in the southwest of the country. The line, which runs through Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, looks certain to become one of the key routes that upon completion will link southwest China with Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.
